Success customer story in Hội An province

If anyone comes to Hamlet 5, Cẩm Thanh Commune, Hội An township, Quảng Nam province, he or she may heard about Trần Quang Khải who is given a beloved and tender name "Chín Gụn" by his villagers.

To have enough food and clothing, his couple had to work hard in the paddy field and helped the villagers gardening, knitting net, building houses etc. Besides, when the night fell, he went to catch fish with a net in the paddy field and river, nevertheless, it was not enough to cover living costs in his family. Finding out him as a painstaking and hard-working person, the branch of Farmers Association in hamlet 5, Cam Thanh commune  recruited him in to a savings and lending group. The group members select and proposed  him in  the poor household list submitting to communal Poverty Reduction Board and VBSP Transaction Office of Hoi An township in order to have him lent of VND 7million for economic development. He was very happy because the government and association concerned and facilitated lending. With the loan he received, he purchased two breeding cows for rearing and improve the living standard. After two and a half years, he had  two more calves and gradually he bought some cows to repay the debt for the bank. At the same time, his family raised one sow and tens of egg-laying hens etc. His family collected profits from the products that he invested  each year. Thus, with the proceeds he put aside, he purchased some furniture for the family as well as savings and  capital accumulation for investing in to  reproduction earning more income and giving the children enough schooling.

Today, his family is not poor anymore and becomes an average income household at the commune. Thanks to the hard-working character, devotion to work, utilization of effective loans, in 2006, Khai was awarded the certificate of well-produced farmer by Farmer Association at Cam Thach commune.

Mr. Trần Chín, Chairman of People’s Committee at Cam Thach commune says more "In the past four years, since the VBSP’s establishment, loan disbursement to the poor has been more advantageous at the communal Transaction Point, reducing travel cost of borrowers. Meanwhile  Associations and Unions are able to gather the mass. Local authorities increasingly understand more closely about the needs of people etc. VBSP branch at Hoi An town has organized a network  with the locality side by side during loan approval, loan disbursement, interest and principal collection etc. These loans have helped our people improve their living standard. The poor have opportunities to escape from poverty and hunger. Alone in 2005, the number of poor households at Cam Thach commune was 16.53%, up to now, decrease in about 11%. It shows that among several measures of helping the poor out of poverty, lending loans is one of the most efficient methods, especially the family of Chin Gun is the most excellent example".
