Trường Lệ is such a remote village, far away from Hành Tín Đông Commune at 10 km towards the south with 752 population, 129 households, of which 50 poor households, making up 38.76% in totals. In the number of poor households, Đoàn Quang Chánh (on the picture) is a typical farmer of escaping from poverty, he was born in 1963, such a heavily built, elegantly black and energetic person.
Coming from a poor and populous family, he returned hometown from military service in Laos in 1981, got marriage in 1987 without owned capitals, his father died early, he alone looked after all his family. Despite difficulties in earning for the family, he did not surrender before hardship, always wished "Must get away from poverty and get rich". This effort helped the couple of Đoàn Quang Chánh voluntarily went reclaiming for production in the area around Thụy Bridge, neighboring with Ba Tơ district, highland area of Quảng Ngãi province. As a result, they reclaimed 2 ha for planting. With little initial capitals, his wife had to open a small tea shop on the roadside. He got to gather dry wood and sold in markets to feed for daily life. Difficulties could not discourage him, he carried on planting and animal breeding etc. He tried to buy a cow for breeding purpose, nevertheless, his family life still faced with difficulty in capitals for production.
His hope received the society’s concern. VBSP has helped him to borrow VND 7 million for investing in buying cows, raising pigs, hiring labors to reclaim and expand forest land. After two years, he sold cows and hired workers to make a dyke to keep water and build a fish pond. After one year of fish raising his incomes increased more and he decided to plant 2 ha of cassava, also planting broom trees. His family economy gradually stabilized and the will of being the rich became true with their utmost effort.
In 2007, they borrowed the loan of VND 25 million in the program of lending to production and business households in disadvantaged areas for investing farming with larger scale. He built a range of pig and cow cages beside the fish ponds in order to take use of remained food from raising pigs and cows to feed fish, which reduce the cost and keep sanitation; Also he used the remained amount to hire workers in planting forest on the fallow land.
Up to now, his couple become the rich in the hard land, owning 30 ha of leucorrhoea and glue forest, one herd of cows with 18 breeding ones, 50 female pigs, 03 fishing ponds with 1,300 m2, 01 stone exploitation workshop with 5 employees. His total incomes reach VND 50 million annually. This is the such an effective economic model, luring a lot of people to concern and learn his experience. He confided "Looking at the property created by the utmost effort of his family, I do not believe why I have power to overcome and obtain good results. As you know, this success stems from our sweat and tears in labor; we have to eat rice ball and fish source everyday; reclaiming daily on this farm. Many times to want to give up, debt rising, but with the loans from VBSP district branch has assisted us to overcome hardship for developing family economy, getting away from poverty and achieving success at present". Besides, developing the family economy, the couple participate in social activities, support the local launched program, the Fund for the poor, job generation etc. Also, they are the model parent in bringing up well-educated children.
The fact shows that with high determination, the couple of Đoàn Quang Chánh knows how to use loans from the Government, themselves overcome difficulties in their lives. They are such an example for others in the village to follow.
