Helping the poor get rich
“Fund is a golden key” is right for the process of poverty elimination of Nguyen Van Thinh’s family, Cao Kenh Hamlet, Hop Thanh commune (Thuy Nguyen).
In 1995, receiving a plot of alluvial land from their parents, the couple made a tent, husband worked on hire, wife did small business at local market to get by. In 2000, Thinh’s wife took part in commune Women’s Union, and was given favorable conditions to borrow VND 3 million from VBP. With additional loans from relatives, they digged ponds to raise fish, planted hundreds of areca trees, opened a store selling groceries. After 2 years, their livings began to be improved. Deducting bank repayment and expenses, they gained about VND 5 million. Success encouraged them to borrow another VND 3 million from VBSP. This time, besides raising pigs, selling groceries, doing the garden, they raised cows. As the results, they got VND 20 million profit. Along with accumulation, they borrowed from VBSP the third time to buy 13 cows, dig 2 poles of pond, raise tens of pigs more, buy rice grinder. Thus, they became a fair economic level household in the commune. Mrs. Thinh said proudly: “What we have today largely due to support from VBSP. Although loan amount is not large, it is a timely encouragement, a consideration of the Party and the State towards the poor which enhance us to struggle against poverty and get rich.”.
