Savings and credit group as a long hand of VBSP in providing financial inclusion for the poor
In the project “Supporting the extension of savings services for the poor of Vietnam Bank for Social Policies” (Project Ford III for short), in December 2009, VBSP organized a “Workshop on evaluating Credit and Savings Group”. The managers and staff from the Training Center, and some operational divisions attended the workshop.
At the workshop, Project Management Unit (PMU) introduced the project. The attendances discussed main activities relating to the project to come to the conclusion on developing a formal material of evaluating SCGs, formulating a guideline manual on SCGs management for group management unit and other relevant propaganda documents of the project.
Following the pilot project on new savings products for low income customers (project Ford I for short) being implemented in 03 provinces of Hoa Binh, Hai Phong and Gia Lai, project Ford III is the inheritance and extension of the achieved results of pilot activities on new savings service of VBSP.
Upon the initial surveys and assessment on new savings products over the country, it is believed that project Ford III will build up a standard set for CSGs evaluation and classification for the district transaction offices in the way to strengthen CSGs operation; give better advertising on new products with adequate information and understanding. Various means of communications will be used to ensure full understanding and long-term positioning on products, in contribution to success of VBSP reproduction nationwide.
Through out the workshop, PMU unanimously approved the implementation plan to the relevant department at the Headquarter. The following activities of the project shall be deployed in 2010.
