General Director Duong Quyet Thang worked with the Cuban Embassy

(VBSP News) On June 25, in Hanoi, VBSP General Director Duong Quyet Thang had a meeting with the Cuban Embassy led by Mr. Orlando Nicolás Hernández Guillén - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba in Vietnam. Attending the meeting, there are Ms. Irmina Peroho Bellido de Luna - Economic and Commercial Counselor; Mr. Jorge Luis Guimera - Economic Office Specialist and Leaders of VBSP.

Welcoming Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba Orlando Nicolás Hernández Guillén and his members to visit and work with VBSP, General Director Duong Quyet Thang gave an overview of VBSP's activities in the past 20 years, especially its role, meaning and importance in poverty reduction and social security in Vietnam. VBSP's activities have helped the poor to have production and business capital, stabilize their lives, and escape from poverty sustainably.

VBSP General Director Duong Quyet Thang said that as a State credit institution, VBSP is established to implement preferential credit policies for the poor and other policy beneficiaries. VBSP's operation method is specific, suitable to Vietnam's political system, so far, VBSP has a total capital of VND 255 trillion, total outstanding loans of VND 239 trillion, with 6.5 million active customers. VBSP has more than 170 thousand savings and credit groups, nearly 11,000 commune transaction points, has been closely coordinating with Party committees, local authorities, mass organizations. With the above results, VBSP has been recognized by the Party and Government of Vietnam and highly appreciated by the international community.

Through the embassy, VBSP General Director Duong Quyet Thang wishes to have cooperation opportunities and share experiences with Banco Popular de Ahorro (BPA) on microcredit management for the poor and other policy beneficiaries; training, research on products and services, banking technology, technical support with modern technology in banking service applications, etc. Thereby, promoting information exchange and expanding cultural exchanges and mutual understanding between the two peoples, contributing to the development of the friendship and cooperative relations between Vietnam and Cuba in general, VBSP and BPA in particular.

The scene of the meeting

On behalf of the delegation, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba Orlando Nicolás Hernández Guillén would like to thank General Director Duong Quyet Thang and VBSP for taking the time to welcome the delegation, and highly appreciated the importance of VBSP in implementing appropriate credit policies for the poor so that they can borrow loans for economic development, contributing to narrowing the gap between rich and poor as well as the role of VBSP in developing the socialist-oriented market economy in Vietnam.

The Cuban Ambassador said he wished to develop a special friendship and comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam in all fields, including the banking industry. The content of cooperation orientation between VBSP and BPA has been included in the Minutes of the December 2020 Intergovernmental Meeting. This is an important basis for promoting cooperation between the two sides in the coming time. Regarding the VBSP's proposal, the Ambassador affirmed that he would do his best to strengthen the cooperation relationship between VBSP and BPA. In the context of the complicated situation of the Covid-19 pandemic, all exchange and cooperation activities are being slowed down, hopefully in the near future, BPA and VBSP will have an exchange program to find out the activities the two banks are performing.
