Policy credit accompanies the people
In 2023, VBSP Can Tho branch has focused on improving the quality of policy credit, meeting the demand of production and business development of the residents, contributing to improving income, life quality of citizens, and effectively implementing the goal of sustainable poverty reduction in the city.
Officials of VBSP Thot Not ward and the Farmers' Association of Thot Not ward visited the model of growing flowers.
In 2023, Thot Not ward mobilized over VND 61.5 billion of savings. By the end of 2023, outstanding loans have been VND 46.8 billion. Loan turnover was over VND 117.3 billion with 2,276 turns of households borrowing loans. Total outstanding loans of credit programs reached over VND 437 billion with 10,330 active borrowers.
Mr. Ngo Hai Dang (in Tan Loi 1, Tan Hung ward) has been growing green onions with high yield. Mr. Dang said: "3 years ago, I borrowed VND 30 million from VBSP to grow green onions. Onions are easy to grow, require little capital to invest in, little care and bring a stable source of income. They are harvested after 2 months of farming and the purchasing price ranges from VND 10,000 to VND 30,000 VND per kilogram. Every year, I grow 4 crops of onions, having income VND 60million per crop".
Ms. Le Thi Mong Nhi (in Truong Binh hamlet, Truong Thang commune, Thoi Lai district) was supported with a loan of over VND 100 million to develop production and take care of her children to study at university. More than 4 years ago, Ms. Nhi and her husband cut down gardens of Hoa Loc mango that were no longer economically effective, and improved the land to grow 300 trees of Thai custard apple. Ms. Nhi said: “After 2 years of farming, I collected over 4 tons of fruit each year. Currently, Ms. Nhi and her husband have also taken care of 100 trees of Ri6 durian.
Pham Van Kiet, Director of VBSP Thoi Lai District said: In 2023, the total outstanding loans of policy credit programs have reached over VND 515 billion with 14,189 active borrowers. Policy credit quality has been remained stable, overdue debt has accounted for 0.07%. The district has two communes, Xuan Thang and Thoi Thanh, with no overdue debt; some effective models such as growing watermelon and durian (Truong Xuan B commune, Truong Thanh commune); growing green-skinned grapefruit and Thai custard apples (Truong Thang commune); etc.
In 2023, the total outstanding loans of policy credit programs of VBSP Cai Rang ward have been over VND 410.3 billion. Overdue debt of the whole ward has been VND 407 million. 3 wards with no overdue debt have included: Ba Lang, Hung Thanh, Phu Thu. From preferential credit, the district has built a number of effective business models: growing Thai jackfruit (Phu Thu ward), growing oranges (Hung Thanh ward), selling fruit, snacks, and coffee (Cai Rang floating market), etc.
According to the report, in 2023, mobilized capital in Can Tho city reached VND 588.3 billion; local capital was VND 521.4 billion. Total outstanding loans reached over VND 4,102 billion. Total outstanding debt entrusted through 4 mass organizations reached VND 4,100 billion; overdue debt was VND 5.9 billion.
Policy credit has helped 1,102 turns of the poor, near-poor and post-poor households develop production and business; 15,328 workers have jobs, 2,333 students have money to cover study costs; 197 households buy social housing, build new houses or repair houses; 9,561 households build and renovate 15,298 works of safe water and sanitation, etc, contributing to reducing the city's poverty rate to 0.21% and promoting the construction of advanced rural areas.
