Helping ethnic minority people use loans effectively
(VBSP News) As a leader of Savings and Credit Group (SCG) in Da Ban village, Phuoc Tien commune, Bac Ai district (Ninh Thuan province), Ms. Pinang Thi Dao has many initiatives in managing savings and VBSP's entrustment loan, creating the best conditions for her members to develop their economy and stabilize their lives.
Ms. Pinang Thi Dao usually checks and reminds her members to use the loan for the right purpose
Lack of capital is one of the reasons why ethnic people in Da Ban village find it difficult to escape from poverty. However, thanks to VBSP’s capital, this difficulty has been partly solved. Besides, it is necessary to find a new way to raise the people awareness of regulations to pay interest and principal on time when borrowing capital. Since being elected to be the leader of the SCG in 2020, Ms. Pinang Thi Dao usually visited her member’s house to check and remind them to use the loans for the right purposes. Through the visit, she found that many members have difficulty in paying monthly interest due to the precarious income. To solve this problem, Ms. Dao implemented the initiative of the "Money saving" for the members. Accordingly, every day, the members save from VND 10.000 – 50.000 and, depending on the ability of each family; monthly, the members use this fund to pay interest as well as deposit savings to the SCG.
Commenting on Ms. Pinang Thi Dao, Deputy Director of Transaction Office of VBSP in Bac Ai district, Tran Huu Quan said: “As the leader of the SCG, Ms. Pinang Thi Dao always promotes her responsibilities at work. She has propagated and mobilized borrowers to join the group; carry out tasks such as urging debt maturity, propagandizing households to borrow loans, creating conditions for people to access VBSP's capital and rise out of poverty. In particular, her "Money saving" initiative not only helps the state's capital to be preserved but also creates opportunities for members to be motivated to develop the economy. As a result, the SCG managed by Ms. Dao has continuously grown in terms of outstanding loan as well as the number of members. From 15 members at the beginning, up to now, it has increased to 36 members with a total outstanding loan of more than VND 1.4 billion; interest collection rate reached 100%, no overdue debt.
In addition to doing well in propaganda and capital management of the group, Ms. Dao is also one of the typical examples of household economic development. Currently, her family raises cows, chickens and fishes, earning an income of VND 120-200 million/year. She shared: “In order to propagate to the members about borrowing capital and using the loan for the right purpose, I have to do it first and effectively to make the members believe, listen and follow me. I wish that all local people can access capital, buy breeding cows, develop the economy, and escape from poverty”.
Being enthusiastic, responsible and determined to help members get out of poverty, Ms. Pinang Thi Dao is a typical example that was rewarded by the transaction office of VBSP in Bac Ai district. This is also the motivation for her to devote and further improve the operational efficiency of the SCG, thereby contributing to improving income for members as well as developing the local new rural construction program.
