VBSP General Director worked with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba in Vietnam
(VBSP News) On the morning of September 21, 2020, General Director – Mr. Duong Quyet Thang had a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba - Ms. Lianys Torres Rivera at the Head Office of VBSP.

At the meeting, General Director Duong Quyet Thang and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba Lianys Torres Rivera expressed their desire to strengthen the relationship between Vietnam and Cuba in general, VBSP and Banco Popular de Ahorro (BPA) in particular in order to learn and share experiences with other countries around the world, especially countries in the region on microfinance management for the poor and other disadvantaged groups. Besides, taking advantage of exploiting capital sources, technical funding sources of international organizations to supplement loans and training, improve governance capacity for VBSP staff, mass organizations officers, the management board of savings and credit groups, and promoting information exchange and mutual understanding between people of the two countries.
According to the General Director, with the specific and suitable mode of operation to Vietnam's political regime, after 18 years of operation, VBSP has total outstanding loans of VND 221,515 billion, with nearly 6.5 million active customers. Currently, VBSP has nearly 200,000 savings and credit groups, nearly 11,000 commune transaction points. In addition to focusing on the implementation of the credit plan targets assigned by the Prime Minister, VBSP continues to work closely with the party committees, local authorities, and mass organizations and well implement debt management, prevent bad debts arising in the course of operation.

General Director Duong Quyet Thang hopes that the Cuban Embassy in Vietnam will be a bridge to promote cooperation activities between VBSP and BPA such as training, products and services research, banking technology, technical assistance, etc,.
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba – Ms. Lianys Torres Rivera thanked the VBSP General Director for spending time to welcome the delegation, and sharing information about the intimate relationship between the two countries, especially congratulations to VBSP for its strong and sustainable development in all aspects over the past time.
According to the suggestions of VBSP, Ambassador Lianys Torres Rivera affirmed that she would do her best to help VBSP and BPA strengthen the cooperation. Currently, because of the complicated situation of the Covid-19 pandemic, all exchange and cooperation activities are slowing down. Hopefully, all trading activities will be reopened soon so that VBSP and BPA can have collaborations in the future.
