Tourism is developed thanks to the Job Creation Program
(VBSP News) Thanks to the attention and guidance of city leaders and local efforts, tourism in Cai Rang district (Can Tho city) has been developed and attracted both domestic and foreign tourists. Besides, preferential loans from VBSP have provided significant support for those tourism business projects.
Tourists eat and drink on floating raft of War Veteran Union in Yen Binh
At the floating market near Cai Rang bridge, floating raft of War Veteran Union in Yen Binh area attracts a lot of tourists. Mr. Nguyen Thanh Dung - Head of Savings and Credit groupof War Veteran Union and Head of the Cooperation team, who is in charge of managing the operation of floating raft, said: “There are 4 members participating in floating raft business serving breakfast, refreshments andamateur music. In addition, there is one member rowing boat to sell fruits around floating market. Thanks to enthusiasm and promotion policies, the number of tourists is increasing, bringing stable income for all members. Initially, other than their savings, each member borrowed VND 50 million from the VBSP's Job Creation Program to invest in floating raft. After 2 years, the project achieves economic efficiency. Currently, revenue from floating business can ensure theirmonthly income, so we plan to expand business scale to serve tourists’ needs and introduce them to local culture and productssuch as knitting, sewing, etc”.
Savings and Credit group managed by Yen Binh’s War Veteran Union has 51 members, of which 12 members borrowed total VND 600 million from Job Creation Program to do business on floating market. Thanks to preferential loans, many small business households in floating markets boldly implemented business and investment plans”.
In addition to unsecured loans, VBSP Can Tho also supports enterprises in providing travel mortgage lending services with interest rate of 6.6% / year and long-term duration. In 2017, Ms. Nguyen Thi Diem, the owner of Xeo Nhum eco-tourism garden, borrowed VND 1 billion of local entrusted capital from Job Creation Program to invest in accommodation services for tourists staying at the garden. Ms. Diem said: “Before borrowing, we also studied lending programs in other commercial banks, however, VBSP's lending policy has more outstanding advantages such as low and stable interest rate, long-term loan, simple procedures and quick disbursement. This capital shows the interest of city leaders and helps us develop more professional tourism services”.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Khanh Van - Director of VBSP Cai Rang district, there are 223 households borrowing loans for tourism development in the district, with outstanding loans of nearly VND 14 billion. The capital for tourism development is paid special attention by the city leaders because it’s entrusted from the city's budget to VBSP to promote tourism in the area.
Mr. Huynh Van Thuan - Director of VBSP Can Tho, said: “The total budget of the city entrusted for VBSP to create jobs with the aim of developing eco-tourism and preserving Cai Rang floating market up to now has reached VND 116 billion with 1,612 borrowers. Under the direction of the City People's Committee, VBSP Can Tho will disburse VND 35 billion from Job Creation Programfor about 510 households and business to invest in tourism developmentin 2019”.
