Motivation to get out of sustainable poverty

By mobilizing the entire political system to deploy appropriate policies, poverty reduction work in Son Duong district (Tuyen Quang) has achieved many positive results, creating motivation to help local people gradually get out of sustainable poverty.

Thanks to receiving loan policies to develop cow farming, Mr. Pham Duc Canh's family got out of poverty

Bo Ho village, Khang Nhat commune has 68 households with 222 people, over 85% of whom are Dao, Tay, and Nung ethnic people. Many years ago, having an income of several hundred million dong to billions from farming and animal husbandry was just a dream for people in this disadvantaged area. But now, thanks to the changes of production thought, local people not only get out of poverty, but also get rich in their homeland. Bo Ho Village has become a bright spot in poverty reduction, creating a breakthrough in economic development, contributing to the locality in completing poverty reduction criteria and reaching the new rural destination in 2023.

Mr. Phang Duc Canh's family (Bo Ho village) was supported with a loan from VBSP to build a barn and buy 2 breeding cows. Mr. Canh said that, up to now, his family's herd of cows has increased to 5 units. With a closed farming method, his family's income from selling cows has been over VND 30 million each year. Thanks to that, he has had motivation to make efforts to develop the economy and escape poverty.

Determining sustainable poverty reduction as one of the important tasks, contributing to promoting socio-economic development, Son Duong district has proposed many solutions to increase income and improve people's lives; reduce the rate of poor households and avoid falling back into poverty. Every year, communes and towns in the district conduct surveys and reviews of poor and near-poor households, analyze the causes leading to the disadvantaged circumstances of target groups, and thereby propose realistic and effective solutions and policies.

At the same time, the district strengthens propaganda of the Party and State's guidelines and policies on poverty reduction to raise local people’s awareness and promote them to rise out of poverty.

To achieve high efficiency in sustainable poverty reduction, the district has focused on vocational training, job creation, and sending workers to work abroad for a limited time under contracts. Mass organizations enhance their role in building new rural areas, associated with poverty reduction work. In 2023, the district opened 19 vocational training classes, successfully organized 2 job transaction sessions, creating new jobs for 5,423 people, reaching 109% of the plan.

Along with supporting livelihoods for poor households and creating jobs for local people, the district has done well socialization work to build housing for poor and near-poor households. The locality has supported to build and repair temporary and dilapidated houses for 396 poor households, with a cost of more than VND 18 billion.

Mr. Ma Van Hieu (Roc village, Hop Thanh commune), excitedly said that recently, he had received VND 90 million from the Fatherland Front Committee of Son Duong district and benefactors. He tried to borrow money from his relatives and work hard to build a house. Having a new house, he would try to do business, raise his children well and quickly get out of poverty.

Thanks to the synchronous and effective implementation of projects combined with creative solutions, Son Duong district has reduced the rate of poor households to 5,993 households, accounting for 11.85% (a decrease of 3,206 households, reaching 185% of the 2023 plan).

Mr. Dao Quang Tuan - Head of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Son Duong district said that in the coming time, the district will mobilize maximum social resources to implement the goal of sustainable poverty reduction; closely follow the progress of program and promptly solve difficulties during the implementation of the program.

In the period 2021 – 2025, the district strives to create jobs for over 16,700 people from poor households, near-poor households, and post-poor households; sending over 7,500 people from poor and near-poor households to work outside the province; contributing to reducing the number of poor households with an employment shortage index to less than 15% by the end of 2025.
