Credit for rural safe water supply and sanitation is promoting positive effects in current drought and salty condition
(VBSP News) From the capital of the Program for Rural Safe Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS) of VBSP in Cho Gao district (Tien Giang), many families have been able to invest in building, renovating and upgrading clean water supply and sanitation works. Thus, safety and hygiene of daily life activities are ensured, living quality is improved. In particular, the Program has brought about a more positive effect when helping people have access to safe water in the current condition of drought and saltwater intrusion.
Mrs. Nguyen Thi Lien borrowed to pay for water piping system to her house
Water supply and sanitation is an indispensable need in the daily life of each person and each family and an important factor in protecting health and improving living conditions for the people. This is also an important criterion during the implementation of the National Target Program on New Rural Development. Therefore, in recent time, VBSP cooperates with mass organizations to implement the Program, ensuring quick, proper and timely disbursement.
At present, when the drought, saltwater intrusion is complicated, the water resources of the canal system are exhausted, people have actively store fresh water in reservoirs built from loans of RWSS program during last years. Investment in clean water and environmental sanitation has shown its effectiveness. Nearly 4 years ago, Mr. Truong Minh Tuan, Hoa Loi Tieu hamlet, Binh Ninh commune was supported by the district VBSP with a loan of VND 12 million at an interest rate of 0.65% / month for constructing clean water and environmental sanitation works. From this amount, Mr. Tuan built toilets and 2 water tanks to store rain water for family activities. Mr. Tuan said, thanks to these constructions, his family has clean water, toilets, helping to keep the landscape clean and beautiful, and joining hands with Binh Ninh commune to successfully complete New rural development criteria. In 2019, especially in the current dry season, his family has enough clean water for daily living.
For Ms. Nguyen Thi Lien, My Tinh An commune, the loan from VBSP district is very meaningful to the family in building clean water and environmental sanitation projects. Her family built 3 reservoirs. To ensure sufficient water for family members in the dry season, two years ago, her family borrowed VND 20 million from VBSP district with support from Women’s Union to invest in building two more fresh water reservoirs and toilets. Currently with 5 water tanks, she pumps tap water in for storage, ensuring enough safe water for daily living of the family. Ms. Lien said that the loans from this program cost relatively low and easy to pay, so she is very assured. Currently, she pays interest every month and make deposits according to regulations and agreement.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Loan - Chairman of My Tinh An Commune Women’s Union said that, to present, the Union had 5 Savings and Credit group borrowing from VBSP with 226 members, including 93 members who borrowed money to implement safe water and environmental sanitation projects with outstanding loans of over VND 380 million.
With practical effects to join hands to improve the living quality for people, protect public health, improve the environment, in the coming time, VBSP will continue to maintain and expand lending to meet the demand of the people, aiming to support people to improve their living conditions on a safer, more hygienic and convenient basis, especially to help people be more proactive in drought and salty intrusion prevention every year.
