Women join hands to help each other in economic development
(VBSP News) Women's Union in Hoi An city, Quang Nam province has many practical activities to support women in economic development and sustainable poverty reduction.
Making lanterns brings income and improves living conditions for many women in Hoi An city
In the past 5 years (2014 - 2019), Hoi An city Women's Union has coordinated with VBSP to promote activities of exploiting, mobilizing and managing capital sources for women to help them develop the economy through the national targeted program on hunger eradication and poverty reduction and job creation.
Specifically, through the Women's Union,VBSP disbursed more than VND 47.6 billion for 1,690 households to help the women develop production and business and escape from poverty. Up to now, the outstanding loans managed by Hoi An city Women's Union have reached nearly VND 52.5 billion with 1,778 active borrowers, accounting for more than 50% of the total outstanding loans from VBSP branch in the city.
In addition, over 9,000 members contributed to revolving fund and savings with the amount of more than VND 40 billion. Therefore, thousands of women could get jobs and improve their lives.
From those practical activities, in the past 5 years, the city's Women's Union has supported 241 households to stabilize their lives. Up to now, 115 households have escaped from poverty or became near-poor ones.
Besides, there are also many activities of law propaganda and education aimed at reducing domestic violence, breaking laws, as well as raising awareness and responsibility in protecting the environment and food safety.
