Support the poor to reproduce after natural disasters
(VBSP News) After the inundation in 2020, lots of poor households in Huong Hoa district (Quang Tri) meet difficulties in reproducing. To handle this problem, the VBSP branch in Huong Hoa has examined and supported the poor and other policy beneficiaries to reproduce by deploying the preferential loans.

Natural disasters caused severe damage to people and property in Huong Hoa district. In particular, agricultural production is strongly damaged, which leads to thousands of poultry loss. To support local people to reproduce, stable their life, the VBSP branch in Huong Hoa district has focused on cooperating with the Party committees, the mass socio-political organizations, and Savings and Credit Group to disburse policy credit programs to meet the demand of borrow of poor-household and other policy beneficiaries.
Ho Thi Kien, a resident in Nguon Rao - Pin hamlet, Huong Son village has two fields of the wet rice-growing area. The flood caused damage not only to her paddy fields but also her house. Her family was supported by VBSP to borrow VND 25 million to handle the problem. Kien uses this money for reproduction, investing in cows, goats, and her paddy field. Although the natural disasters damaged her poverty, she is able to stabilise her life soon thanks to VBSP.
Sharing the same situation with Ho Thi Kien, Ho Thi Muon also faced lots of problems caused by the flood. In addition to the buried wet rice area, the floods also swept her fishpond away, and dozens of chickens died. Right after the flood, her family has approached the loans of VBSP for reproduction activities. Muon uses VND 40 million to invest in chickens, cows, goats. Thanks to the loans, her family has a stable life. Muon promised to use the money for the right purpose and payback on time.
Huong Hoa district has 9.980 poor households, near-poor households, and other policy beneficiaries. These people are customers who are easily vulnerable to natural disasters. 1.500 customers borrowed money from VBSP for production and businesses affected by the flood. In order to meet the demands of production recovery, and stabilization of the local's lives after the floods, the local VBSP branch has cooperated with the Party committees, and mass socio-political organizations to review and evaluate the damage of the borrowers. Hence, suitable solutions, such as extending or fixing the loans, were applied. Until now, the VBSP has extended the loans for 1.331 customers, disbursed for 800 households damaged by the flood with the money of VND 27 billion.
Referring to solutions for preferential loans to reproduce, The Vice Director of the VSPB branch in Huong Hoa district, Nguyen Xuan Anh shares that the branch continues to associate with the local community to review borrowers. The loans have met the demand of customers. Other solutions such as coordinating with the local government to examine the loan demand of customers are applied to support customers approaching the loans at the right time. In terms of households that are strongly affected by the flood, VBSP has extended the loans according to the regulations. Besides, VBSP co-operates with other sectors to support and guide breeding and cultivation techniques to farmers, as well as tracking the investment situation of customers closely to ensure that the money is disbursed quickly and promptly to the right beneficiaries, used with the right purpose.
As can be seen, the examination and assessment of damages, poverty loss caused by natural disasters of VBSP are practical and effective. Hence, suitable solutions are applied such as debt rescheduling, change-off, and actively implementing new loans to help local people overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives right after natural disasters.
