People in Gia Lai changed their lives thanks to policy credit

In Gia Lai province, there are currently 31,502 poor households (accounting for 8.11%), of which 28,173 poor households are ethnic minorities, accounting for 17.05% of the total number of ethnic minority households, helping to reduce the poverty rate by 3%/year according to the multidimensional poverty line for the period 2022 - 2025.

Gia Lai people effectively invest in economic models from policy capital

Mr. Le Van Chi - Director of VBSP Gia Lai Provincial Branch said: After 10 years of implementing Directive No. 40-CT/TW, policy credit activities in the border highlands have really had many positive changes. Party committees and local authorities at all levels have agreed on the awareness of the importance of policy credit capital in national target programs on sustainable poverty reduction and social security.

Accordingly, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs coordinates with authorities at all levels to review the lists of poor households, near-poor households and post-poor households in accordance with regulations, creating favorable conditions, so that VBSP can disburse timely loans to the right target groups. The financial sector prioritizes additional capital sources for VBSP based on the local budget to lend to poor households and other policy beneficiaries. The People's Committees of districts, towns and affiliated cities annually allocate local budgets to entrust VBSP so that poor households and disadvantaged ethnic minority households can receive preferential loans to develop agricultural production, forestry and other industries of traditional jobs.

By June 30, 2024, the total entrusted local budget capital has reached VND 470 billion, an increase of 15.6 times compared to entrusted budget before Directive No. 40-CT/TW, contributing to increasing the total capital for Provincial loans increased to VND 7,305 billion, an increase of VND 4,504 billion compared to 10 years ago.

Policy capital has helped 532,257 poor households and other policy beneficiaries invest in production and business development; helping 55,555 households overcome the poverty; 15,357 disadvantaged students have the opportunity of schooling; 53,968 workers created jobs; helping 235 workers work abroad for a limited time; build 242,017 works of rural safe water and environmental sanitation that meet national standards; 3,022 houses built for poor households and ethnic minority households.

Policy credit programs are promptly deployed by VBSP Gia Lai Provincial Branch to the right beneficiaries, making an important contribution to the goal of poverty reduction and new rural construction. In the period 2014 - 2015, the province's poverty rate decreased from 23.73% to 11.36%; decreased from 19.71% to 16.55% (period 2016 – 2021); period 2021 - 2023 decreases from 12.09% to 8.11% (period 2021 – 2023). 91 communes were recognized as meeting new rural standards; contributing to ensuring political security, social order and promoting economic development in rural areas.

Mr. Nguyen Van Bich's family (in village 2, Hoa Phu commune, Chu Pah district) has 6 people, living in a temporary house and facing many difficulties. In 2018, Mr. Bich received support from the local government to build a solid house and borrowed VND 50 million from VBSP. Mr. Bich grew 2 acres of coffee and raised chickens. Currently, he has had a stable source of income. In 2021, Mr. Bich voluntarily asked to be removed from the list of the poor households and give State support to households in more difficult circumstances.

Mr. Rah Lan Chung - Deputy Secretary of Gia Lai Provincial Party Committee said: Bringing the Party's Directive No. 40-CT/TW into life is considered a breakthrough of sustainable poverty reduction and new rural construction. Therefore, policy capital not only grows rapidly, but also creates practical effects, helping people develop production and continuously improve their lives.
