Thank to VBSP's loans, thousands of households build or renovate, upgrade their water supply and sanitation facilities
Living quality improved
Previously, Dang Minh Phung's family (Hoi Phuoc village, Binh Loc commune) lived with relatives. After years of saving, his family built their own house. Phung said that after building a new house, he and his wife had borrowed 20 million VND from the VBSP to build toilets and clean water works. Thanks to that, the family has running water to use. Similarly, after building house, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Chi (Hoi Phuoc village, Binh Loc commune) also borrowed 20 million VND from the VBSP to build a toilet and running water system. Currently, each month, she and her husband pay about 150,000 VND of interest and deposit 350,000 VND to ensure full repayment for the bank.
According to Dinh Minh Trang - Chairman of the Farmers’ Association of Binh Loc Commune, the association is managing about 11.9 billion VND of trust loan from the VBSP. In particular, the loans for clean water and sanitation are 7-8 billion VND with 545 borrowers. The whole commune has more than 14 billion VND of outstanding loans with nearly 1,100 borrowers. People are in need of the loans because they are very practical for rural areas. In the past, many people used well water and filter tanks, they lacked water in the dry season. Currently, more than 90% of the local people have running water to use and improve the quality of life.
Many households given loans
Currently, the VBSP is lending up to 10 million VND for a work, instead of 6 million VND like before, so the maximum loan for each household under the program on clean water and sanitation is 20 million VND ( for 1 sanitation work and 1 clean water work). The funding from the program has helped thousands of households in Dien Khanh District to invest to build or upgrade clean water supply and sanitation works, contributing to improving environment, protecting the health of residential communities and improving the quality of life. By the end of August, the loan balance of the credit program for clean water and sanitation in the district reached more than 165.8 billion VND with nearly 12,300 borrowers; loans reached more than 41.4 billion VND.
According to Nguyen Huy Bang - Deputy Director of VBSP Transaction Office in Dien Khanh District, the program implementation was closely coordinated by associations, unions and localities, creating conditions for people to access loans. In the coming time, the transaction office will continue to coordinate to propagate and popularize policy credit programs in general and the clean water and sanitation program in particular to facilitate people, especially in rural ares to borrow money with preferential interest rates. The bank will continue to ensure timely loan disbursement, well serving the people in the district and improving the credit quality.
