Focus on sustainable poverty reduction
In recent years, the district's economic structure has been shifting in the right direction. In 2018, the agricultural sector only accounted for nearly 21%, industry - construction 37.5%, trade - service nearly 46% of the district's total income; the average annual income per capital is over VND 39 million; The rate of poor households is about 4%. Chairman of the People's Committee of Duc Tho district, Mr. Vo Cong Ham affirmed, the program of sustainable poverty reduction and new rural construction in Duc Tho achieved high efficiency, with significant contributions from VBSP. Policy credit programs not only address poverty reduction and social security but also show humanity, promote the strength of the community, and build new wealthy, civilized and beautiful rural areas.
Director of VBSP Duc Tho - Tran Toai Nguyen said, by the end of the first quarter of 2019, the total outstanding loans of the VBSP's credit programs reached over 344 billion VND, with 8,300 households borrowing loans to invest in production and economic development. All borrowing households use loans for the right purposes, with efficiency, and pay debts and interests according to regulations. Many households have escaped from poverty and have gradually risen to the prosperous level. In particular, the district VBSP focuses on lending in 4 communes: Duc Dung, Duc An, Duc Thanh and Lien Minh which are striving to reach the new rural development destination in 2019, with total lending of over VND 5.7 billion, raising the total loan outstanding of these 4 communes to VND 68.3 billion
Fulcrum for poor households
Without timely support from the VBSP's preferential capital, many people in Duc Tho district have no fulcrum to develop production, improve income and stabilize their lives.
In 2016, Mr. Pham Quoc Dung of Duc Lang commune purchased 11 ha of hilly land in Vinh Yen village - the most disadvantaged place in the commune, to start a business. With effort and the will to overcome poverty, soon 11 hectares of wild hills were cleared of weeds, when his family ran out of capital. Impressed by his determination, in 2017, the Commune Farmers' Association advised Mr. Dung's family to borrow VND 50 million from the job creation loan program at the VBSP district. Having capital in hand, Mr. Dung invested in acacia planting and raise livestock. Up to now, the farm of Mr. Dung's family has expanded with 7ha of acacia, 4 ha of oranges (500 orange trees, of which nearly 400 gave oranges) and hundreds of cows and chickens. The total value of the farm is up to 2 billion VND.
In Duc Lang commune, many households have successfully established their businesses from the policy credit capital like Mr. Dung's family. Mr. Le Huu Luan borrowed from VBSP to invest in planting fruit trees and raising animals. Up to now, on the hill area of the family, there are 250 orange roots, 100 dragon fruit roots, and longan combined with cow and chicken raising. Deducting expenses, his family earns over VND 200 million per year. Or Ms. Vo Thi Suu takes advantage of preferential capital from VBSP to make a net house to grow clean vegetables; build cages for breeding 200 chickens, 100 ducks, more than 10 porkers. The average income of her family is over VND 150 million per year.
Chairman of People's Committee of Duc Lang Commune Le Van Hiep said that the current outstanding debt of the whole commune is over VND 13 billion dongs, with 278 borrowing households. Over the past years, the hilly economy and the policy credit have brought a new face to Duc Lang commune as well as the mountainous communes in Duc Tho district. Thanks to the strong and deep focus of authorities at all levels and the effective entrustment of mass organizations, Savings and Cerdit groups, people in Duc Tho district have contributed actively in sustainable poverty reduction, socio-economic development and new rural construction of the locality.
