Empowering ethnic minorities
To implementing preferential credit policies according to the National Target Program on socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas in the period 2021 - 2030, VBSP Krong Nang district (Dak Lak) has actively brought preferential credit to local people, especially ethnic minorities, helping to improve their lives, accelerating the process of sustainable poverty reduction in the locality.
Policy credit source helps the poor households and other policy beneficiaries in Krong Nang get jobs and have stable income, contributing in sustainable poverty reduction
Krong Nang is a district located in the East, has 32,537 households with 30 ethnic groups living together. Of which, ethnic minorities account for 32.35% of the district's population.
Ms. H'Nheo Ksor's family (in Dlieya A village, Dlieya commune) is a poor household. In 2020, she was loaned VND 30 million by VBSP Krong Nang district to grow coffee trees. Thanks to her good care, she had a stable source of income and paid off all the debt. In 2024, she has continued to borrow another VND 100 million to plant 3 more acres of durian and intercrop it in the coffee garden. Up to now, the durian trees have grown well. Ms. H'Nheo said: "My family faced many difficulties in the past. Thanks to the preferential loans from VBSP, my family had money to develop production and improve our economies, we were so excited”.
Ms. Hoang Thi Doi (a Tay ethnic group in Giang Thanh village, Ea Dáh commune) took a loan of VND 40 million to take care of 3 acres of coffee. In 2023, Ms. Doi has continued to be loaned VND 60 million by the district VBSP from the loan program for ethnic minority households in disadvantaged areas to raise cows for reproduction. Currently, her family’s economy has been improved so much.
In the period 2019 - 2023, VBSP Krong Nang district gave 5,283 ethnic minority households preferential loans with the amount of VND 177 billion to develop production and stabilize their lives.
Mr. Mai Van Tram - Director of VBSP Krong Nang district said: Ethnic minorities in the area had opportunities to access to preferential credit programs from VBSP. They spent capital on investment purposes for agricultural and livestock production. Many households have worked hard, risen out of poverty and enriched themselves.
By the end of April 2024, VND 137 billion has been disbursed to more than 3,280 poor households; VND 129 billion has been disbursed to 3,300 near-poor households for economic development; 1,274 loan customers have been created jobs; 515 houses have been built; contributing to positive changes in poverty reduction.
By the end of 2023, Krong Nang district has had 5,169 poor households (accounting for 15.88% of the entire district's households); of which, the poor ethnic minority households are 3,077 households, accounting for 59.52%; near-poor households are 3,486 households, accounting for 10.71% of households. To 2029, the district has strived to reduce the rate of poor households in ethnic minority areas by 3 - 3.5% each year.
