The portfolio of VBSP reaches VND 147,196 billion
4th October 2015 remarked 13 years of VBSP establishment. Up to now, the portfolio of VBSP reaches VND 147,196 billion, increasing 20 times compared to the handover time from the Bank for the Poor – VBSP’s precursor. VBSP has developed an effective organization and credit management model in line with the actual context of Vietnam.
The operation network covers from the central to grass-root level with 63 provincial branches, 626 district transaction offices, 200,000 savings and credit groups and about 11,000 fixed-date transaction points at commune level. Thanks to the large network and the community participation, VBSP has delivered preferential credit to 7 million of poor households, near-poor households, households who just escaped from poverty and other disadvantaged groups.
VBSP is an only credit institution which has developed a network of transaction outlets ranging to commune, hamlet and remote island. This is a perquisite for VBSP to deliver preferential credit to each address of poor households and generate “a service system which is friendly to the community”. The transaction point at commune creates favorable conditions for poor households, particularly for ethnic minority households to access easily to financial inclusion.
The preferential credit of VBSP has assisted more than 3.6 million households overcome poverty and created jobs for 11.8 million people (out of which over 104 thousand employees go to work for a period abroad), built up 6.6 million RWSS projects, supported 3.3 million disadvantaged students to continue their study, built 484 thousand houses for the poor and policy households, 700 huts to avoid floods , over 102 thousand houses over flood for households in Mekong river delta. VBSP is now conducting 20 credit programs which are among the most effective measures for poverty reduction and social security in Vietnam.
