Thanks to policy credit resources, many poor and near-poor households in Gia Nghia City (Dak Nong) have been supported to develop production and gradually overcome difficulties.

Hope for disadvantaged residents

In Dak Nia and Dak R’Moan communes, Gia Nghia City, the transaction points of VBSP have become a trusted destination for the poor.

Mr. Nguyen Khac Hoan from Dak Tan village, Dak Nia commune, shared: “My family moved from the North to Gia Nghia to settle, but our life was tough with just a small garden, and my wife was often ill. Thanks to the guidance of local officials, we were able to access preferential loans to build a clean water sanitation and buy fertilizers to expand production”.

Currently, Mr. Hoan and seven other households in Dak Nia have been receiving government-supported Sind hybrid breeding cows to improve their livelihoods. His near-poor family is delighted with this encouraging support, which gives them hope for the future.

The poor, near-poor and ethnic minority households in Dak Nia Commune were supported with cows for their living. To ensure transparency, the local government allows households to freely select trusted breeding cow providers or organizes a bidding process to procure high-quality cows.

If dissatisfied, residents could return breeding cows to the service provider.

Facilitating access to credit

Ms. Le Thi Yen, a cultural and social affairs officer in Dak Nia commune, shared: “Thanks to the humane policy credit, many poor households are now confident to improve crop productivity. They purchase cows, goats and seedlings to engage in production, creating wealth and improving their livelihoods”.

Each year, Gia Nghia City authorities replicate poverty reduction models. Poor, near-poor and post-poor households participate in training on agriculture, forestry and aquaculture. They are also guided on sustainable and systematic economic development practices.

Mr. Nguyen Van Doanh, Vice Chairman of the Dak R’Moan Commune People’s Committee, affirmed: “Awareness of the local people has been improved thanks to preferential credit. Local officials have gradually introduced new economic practices and mindsets, helping the poor rise above adversity”.

However, to ensure the effectiveness of policy credit, making sure it reaches the right beneficiaries, the Gia Nghia City Department of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs closely monitors and supervises its use. The department emphasizes the responsibility of local officials and commune authorities to prevent misuse of state preferential funds for personal gain or ineffective utilization that could hinder loan recovery.

Mr. Do Tan Suong, Chairman of Gia Nghia City People’s Committee and Head of the VBSP Gia Nghia City Representative Board of Directors, evaluated that policy credit operations have been primarily implemented at safe and secure transaction points in communes, ensuring safety for both personnel and assets.
